Tour Description
This is a special shore excursion across the rolling hills of Tuscany.
In the heart of the famous Tuscan countryside, in the Elsa Valley, you will find the town of San Gimignano. Known for its medieval watch towers built as house-forts used to protect the rich families from enemy attacks, San Gimignano today is the only medieval village in Tuscany which still preserves its original architecture.
Walking along the narrow streets of the village you can enjoy the beauty of unique buildings and marvellous landscapes this place has to offer. After spending the morning and lunch in San Gimignano we will head to Volterra, just a 35 minutes drive away towards the coast.
Volterra (Velathri) is one of the twelve main cities of Etruria, the Etruscan confederation. There are many interesting sites to see in this town, for example: the Medicean Fortress and Tower, Priori Square and Priori Palace, the Cathedral, the Baptistry, the Guarnacci Etruscan Museum, the Museum Of Sacred Art, the Roman Theatre and Thermae, and the Art Gallery, surrounded by the enchanting landscapes! We highly recommend you to purchase an alabaster souvenir from your trip to Volterra, as the town is also known as the Alabaster Capital of the World.
By choosing this option will take you to a local family owned winery where you will try some of the best Tuscan wines paired with a delicious lunch. Additional 30/35 Euros per person to be paid directly on spot.
